 Binomials when written should be underlined or italicized when printed. 
 Bi means Two  Nomus means Nome  Nomenclature means Naming 
 This system is providing a name with two components is called Binomial nomenclature. 
 This Naming system is given by Carolus Linnaeus. 
 Linnaeus evolved a system of nomenclature called binomial. 

 Taxonomy: 

Taxonomy is the science of naming, describing and classifying organisms and includes all plants, animals and microorganisms of the world. 

 Classification: 

grouping of organism into classes, orders, families, genera, species etc. 

Nomenclature:

 Nomenclature, in biological classification, system of naming organisms. 

 Binomial system of nomenclature was originally introduced by Carolus Linnaeus. 
 Two kingdom classification is given by Carolus Linnaeus, Books- “Species plantarum” (1753) & “Systema Naturae” (1758). 
 Two kingdom classification – a. Plant kingdom b. Animal kingdom 
 Five kingdom classification is given by R. H. Whittaker (1969).



 First letter of the genus should be capital and is commonly a noun, while species is often an adjective. An example for binomial can be cited as: Puccinia graminis tritici race-1 (stem rust of wheat) 
 Kingdom = Fungi 
 Division = Eumycota 
 Subdivision = Basidiomycotina 
 Class = Teliomycetes  Order = Uredinales 
 Family = Pucciniaceae 
 Genus = Puccinia 
 Species = graminis
